[PROBLEM SPACE]

“I think I watered my plants yesterday…or maybe not…”

For beginner or forgetful plant owners, it can be challenging to maintain their plants. One of the biggest reasons why is forgetting to regularly water them.

[IDEATION]

A timer for plants

Basic timers should have the same function of starting a timer and creating multiple of them. purpose or goal unrelated to time. In addition to this, I wanted to create a timer with a balance of functionality and fun.

[FINAL DESIGN]

Introducing, Botani Timer

This timer app reminds plant owners to water their plants regularly, fostering the development of a consistent plant care routine and, hopefully, preventing any more plant casualties.

Set Timer + Add Plant

The Home screen shows the user’s current plants. To add a new plant, tap the + icon on the bottom.

Add your new plant by using the search or by browsing through the categories to find it .

The screen will change as the user types. When the plant is found, tap on it.

The user will have preset timer options based on the plant’s need.

When an option is selected, the new plant will be added to the home screen, the timer will start.

Timer Goes Off + Resolve Timer + Reset Timer

When a timer goes off, a visual cue will indicate that it’s time for watering.

To resolve the timer, click on the button

to end it.

The user will be prompted to set the timer again for the

next watering cycle.

Once an option is selected, the timer will reset.

Tapping on the plant
will provide details on
the timer.

Overdue Timer

A timer for a plant can go unresolved.

The plant due for watering will change to reflect that it needs some attention.

Tapping on the plant will provide timer details and prompt the user to go water their plant.

[REFLECTION + NEXT STEPS]

Plentiful Plants

This project still remains a favorite of mine, so if I ever have the chance to revisit, these are some things I would do!

Expanding Plantcare

As this timer is mostly intended for beginner plant owners, the function of the timer can be expanded to other areas other than watering. For example, users might set a timer for when they might use plant food/fertilizer, or change soil.

Playful Plants

The current plants designed act as characters, but each plant is preset to their design. In the future, customizable plant designs can be unlocked or bought like an in-game reward for users who keep their streak of watering their plants on time.

Learning Motion Design

This project is what pushed me into motion design. While it was definitely a learning curve from static screens, I had a lot of fun experimenting and exploring how little bits of movement can bring personality to the screens I create!
